Inspired by the possibilities the future might bring, I seek to incorporate new technologies and new ways of thinking into new approaches towards architectural design. Every tool has strengths, but every tool has limitations, thus it is important to understand the latest technological developments at my disposal as well as traditional fabrication methods. How these tools are applied can change how the world is designed and crafted.
I apply a hybrid approach to my process, often beginning analog with ink sketches, then using robust software, coding, and CNC fabrication to bring concepts to life.
While adopting these technologies and looking forward, I believe embracing the natural world to be essential to the future of architecture. Another hybridization, I seek to embrace both tech and nature in my designs. I believe the path to a rewarding tomorrow requires our built environment to coincide with the natural environment, as they cannot exist in isolation. Be it a skyscraper filled city or a secluded mountain trail, everywhere we are, everything we touch is forever changed by our involvement -- and ideally for the better.
Parametric design (also referred to as computational or algorithmic design) is merely understanding the relationships between things and how to express that relationship mathematically. The application of this methodology is limitless, from cost estimates and site analytics, to elevated design quality and precision fabrication.
Ultimately the objective of this approach is to be more efficient, more accurate, and to create a better human experience.
Graduated Cum Laude from Montana State University with a BA in Environmental Design (2007) with an emphasis in philosophy, and a Master of Architecture (2009) with an emphasis in digital fabrication.
